on inspiration

I’m not going to lie to you, creatively, I’ve been sort of absent. I’ve hit a point where I feel like everything that could be done has been done by someone else, and done better than I could ever imagine. Don’t misunderstand me, this isn’t a “woe is me, I’m comparing myself to everyone” thing, it’s just, for lack of a better term, a creative block.

So, lately, I’ve been trying to find inspiration in new places, I’m so used to my same sources and they’re great, but they’re not pushing me to do or make or write interesting things. In my hunt for more offbeat inspiration, I stumbled upon the work of AQQ Design and thought, this is the sort of simple yet unique kind of inspiration I need right now, it’s definitely a good start.

Where do you turn when you hit a creative block? I’d love to know. not to mention you’d be helping a sister out.

Oh gosh, artistically, I’ve been creatively blocked for quite some time. When I came up to AK, I tried painting/drawing/whatever and everything looked dumb (not even kidding). And it frustrated me to no end. I kind of gave up on myself to allow myself the time to focus on writing, and pow! I feel like a rockstar sometimes when I think about the story I’m writing. Writing is definitely my new/old creative outlet, and so far, the ideas just keep coming. =)

    • Dana, that’s a really good point. There is something to be said for finding the right creative outlet for yourself, it may just be that I’ve yet to find it…

So glad to hear that your writing is going so well! I can’t wait to read your what is sure to be masterpiece!

I find it is necessary to take quiet, peaceful breaks away from the internet (my brain was starting to feel overwhelmed and confused) :) xo your site is definitely fresh with such lovely content and inspiration, I love coming here.

    • Thanks Alecia! Yeah, I’ve had to step away for a bit too, it just seems overwhelming to grasp the reality of there is nothing new under the sun, so I think why bother? But then I answer my own question, because I love it! It’s really tough to push yourself to think outside the box and I am feeling those growing pains.

Honestly, when I get frustrated or blocked creatively, I take a big step away from art and go out and do something fun and just concentrate on other things for a while.
